When I try to integrate the RVMUpdatePack2.1.6.7z Update Pack I get the following message: error: no entries*.ini found

I am using the RVM_Integrator_1.4.3.exe version and am working with a Retail version of Windows XP Pro with SP2 slipstreamed into it. The slipstreamed version works perfect, therefore I know that it has no problems.

I tried mounting an iso image of the disk and using that as the source and I also copied the files from the disk to a folder on the hard drive and tried integrating the Upade Pack in both these ways to no avail.

Can someone please tell me why I keep getting the above mentioned error.

Thanks
Joel

I would need to see log files to be able to help you troubleshoot this issue.

I had the same problem and error message yesterday when I attempted to integrate. The same problem occurred after several attempts. Today everything worked fine and integration completed after around 42 minutes.

Initially I had the Update & Addon Packs in a directory that had spaces & non-alpha numeric characters in the directory name on D drive. It was the same for the destination file. I changed everything to the C drive with only alpha characters and no spaces in the file and directory names. I also cleaned out the Temp directory.

I don't know which change made it work, but you have some things to consider with your integration.

yes it is known that the integrator does not like special characters in it's paths. :( It is something I need to fix soon.

Wow integration took 42 mins. You must have a slow computer? It is the compression portion of the integration that takes so long. On my computers it averages about 10 mins to integrate an updatepack.

I am also hitting the 'No entries*.ini' error message, but eliminating spaces and special characters from my folder names has not fixed the problem.

My setup is as follows,

Latest RyanVM Integrator 1.4.3 (downloaded today)
Latest Post SP2 Update Pack 2.1.7.7z (downloaded today)
Original Win XP Pro files from Dell Reinstallation CD (at SP1a)
RyanVM Integrator pointed at WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe file for SP2 slipstreaming
All above files, plus target folder for integrated result, are on H: drive

I have been assuming that all I need to do is to set up the Integrator to point at all the above items and it will automatically slipstream SP2 before adding the update pack.

My settings and log files are shown below. Where might I be going wrong?

David

I have the same problem. Was using d: drive, moved to c: drive no change. Ran Integrator from c: drive no difference. Nothing fancy about path names. C:\winxp and c:\spfixed for destination. Here is my log.

One full week has now passed without any response to my query. This does not seem to be a very active forum....

Your answer has been answered many times. That is why I haven't replyed to it. It gets annoying answering the same question multiple times. I am unable to reproduce this error. My guess is the integrator does not like some sort of setting in your computer but I have no idea what it is. For some reason most people do not have an issue with spaces and some do. You should try to move your integrator executable into a directory without spaces. That has seemed to work for the most part. Allthough I don't know why because mine is run from "C:\Program Files\Siginet Software\RVMIntegrator\RVMIntegrator.exe".

My guess is it has something to do with the 7zip plugin found in the PLUGINS\7ZIP directory. Because it is used to extract the updatepack and the driver.cab/sp2.cab files. In your log I can see that it is not extracting any of them.

Well, I apologise for causing annoyance but I saw earlier posts about the entries*.ini error message and none of them offered what I would call a meaningful answer. All I saw were recommendations to eliminate spaces and special characters from path names. As clearly shown in my log file, I had already taken that advice before I made my post - and it made no difference.

However, your comment about the 7zip plugin is new to discussions about the entries*.ini error. Downloading this utility from the 7zip site gives me a different exe file than provided with the RyanVM Integrator (7z442.exe versus 7zdn.exe). Unfortunately, I've no idea what conclusion to draw from that....

7zdn.exe is a custom 7zip plugin created for the integrator. In the next release of the integrator I will be testing a new method for archive extraction that may get rid of the need for 7zdn.exe completly.

Unfortunatly the reason I can't help you much is because I haven't been able to figure out why some people have this issue. Hopefully by replacing 7zdn.exe with a new method this issue will be resolved. You can sign up to be a beta tester if you are interested and one of the next betas will have my attempt at fixing this error. ;) It seems to be the biggest Integrator bug. So if I can squash it ... it will make life much easier. ;)

But can you change this: "P:\Soft2\RVM Integrator\RVM_Integrator_1.4.3.exe" to this: "P:\Soft2\RVM_Integrator\RVM_Integrator_1.4.3.exe" and let me know if you're issue is resolved?

On my PC, your integrator exe file is located at
H:\WinXPSlipstreaming\RyanVM\RyanVMIntegrator\RVM_ Integrator_1.4.3.exe.

I don't understand your reference to the path "P:\Soft2\RVM Integrator". Please clarify.

I don't know if it's a typo error when you write but you have always a space:
RVM_ Integrator_1.4.3.exe
RVM_Integrator_1.4.3.exe ->
don't know if that can help???

And me the first time i tried to make an update pack, i've got the same error because i packaged the folder containing the update pack in a 7z archive :???: .
And it's the content of the folder who must be compressed

If you have extracted the updatePack before check your archive.
I don't think it's your case but i trie to share my error ;)

Sorry I mixed your post up with another.

elrico points out a good point though. For some reason your computer seems to be adding spaces to your post?? It is only from your computer do posts get messed up like this. So I am thinking there is some sort of weird issue with your computer? If you go back and look at your previous posts you will see random spaces added throughout it.

David Anderson

I've no idea why three or four spaces were randomly added when I pasted the log file and settings file into my earlier post (the spaces don't exist in the source files). Pasting the same files again into a Word doc worked perfectly a few minutes ago. I suspect that the cause is far more likely to be an transient internet communication quirk than any bug on my PC. I use my PC for several hours every day and everything seems to be working normally.

I'm not sure where your problem lies then. Your logs seem to be fine. (Aside from the random spaces.)

All I can say is sign up to be a beta tester and I will try to fix your issue in Beta5. ;)

Well, I know it's something about the extraction for sure.
RVMTemp is empty. I tried extracting the update pack into there manually and then got "SYSOC.INF not found"...upon hitting ok it continued to the next file and gave me another "not found"

These should be critical errors and cause the program to either halt or exit.
Maybe you could add the option to manually browse for the files and extract them.

Oh btw...my folder structure used to work before...even with v1.4.3...just hasd to rename the folder and it would work.

Hope this helps

EDIT: I also tried your EXE path and it generated the same problem and you know what? Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if 1.4.3 ever worked honestly.
