View Full Version : [Coming Soon] RVMIntegrator v1.5
Siginet
02-26-2007, 01:33 PM
The next release is in the works and a lot of changes are being made to some of the core areas of the coding structure. So I will be needing a bunch of beta testers before I release it to the public. If you are interested in helping out and beta testing the project then please reply to this thread and ask. ;)
I'm not releasing a beta yet... but I want to have enough beta testers when the time comes. Please don't ask to be a beta tester unless you are sure you will have the time to beta test and give feedback.
So far here are the changes I have implemented:
1. Re-Coded the MD5 Hash checkin so that it is compatable with Vista x86/x64
Re-Coded Many core areas.
Added a new Option to the Advanced Tab called "Optimize Txtsetup.sif" Which allows the user to choose if they want the [SourceDisksFiles] section Alphabetized. There is a theory that this speeds up Windows Setup. I thought by me implementing this code it was going to make integrations much longer... but to my suprise the way I coded it... it is almost instant! :D
Fixed: "I am trying to fix the [EditFile] section of the script now. Some of the core changes are not compatable with the way the [EditFile] entries work so I am going to code it another way... and hopefully make it better."
I think some of the core changes have really boosted the speed of all file edits as well. :D Allthough the recabbing is what makes integrations take so long... so most users won't notice much of a speed change.
Still in the works:
After fixing the [EditFile] section I seemed to notice the [HexEdit] section may not be functioning correctly... so that is my next step. So far it is looking good.... I still need to test the ExtraFileEdits section as well.
P.S. I have been coding on the latest integrator for almost a week straight. Yesterday I didn't even get out of bed once... cause I was busy coding on the laptop. So a lot of work is going into this next release. So I am begging you... If you enjoy using the integrator please send a donation to show your appreciation. It doesn't matter what you send... anything is better than nothing.
Thanks to all who have helped this project.

Count me in Siginet if it's not too late.
FWIW I am a developer and not a IT Admin & have been using RVM to build UAXP cds for the small company i work for.
Last year I went with Ghost for deploying our setup on new lappies, but once dual core came out, my sysprepped image was toasted (BSOD), and won't work between P4, PM, and the Dual Cores, so.....hence I started on the uaxp approach.
I almost have the post-uaxp portion completely done, but unfortuantely, its' about, uh, 5 dvds including .Net 03, .Net 05, SQL, MSDN, etc (all done by WPI, silent install or AutoIT).
The only area I lack in honestly is I don't yet know how to create addon packs for the smaller apps in the deployment.....but it's on my list :)
I currently use RVM to create UAXP for:
XPProOEM
XPProVLKMine (has all the crap I put on my pc)
XPProVLK
XPProOEMVanilla (just updates)
All of them are using DriverPacks, Some RVMPacks, and WPI, and I script the builds w/ a cmd line & RVM switches.

Just let me know Siginet when I can be of assistence, I am busy now working on doing upgrades, I have two systems ready to go, one an Acer Laptop the other my main system. I'll gladly try it out on both, while I'm testing my USB Key installs. I don't/won't do Vista, but I'll gladly let you know about XP Pro, I can also let you know about MCE2005 as well, if need be. Soon I'll be redoing that system and retiring MCE from it in favor of Ubuntu, so need to know as soon as possible on that one, I'm having to fix my main system and am in the process of that before I can do the reinstalls, but that should be done sometime today or tomorrow.

Hello Siginet
I am building installs for various machines (business/personal) and would love the opportunity to test out your latest incarnation...:D
I am building Dell, HP, and Sony using both OEM and Retail versions and have had reasonable luck using 1.4.3 combined with nlite. Although, I would like to get away from nlite due to various little anomolies - but I also would like to still have driver integration....hence, Integrator 1.5
If you are still adding BTs, I would like to join up.
And, THANKS for all your effort to produce the Integrator :!:
Siginet
04-01-2007, 06:22 PM
I'm not sure if I am going to add support for BTs DPs directly in the integrator... because I wouldn't want to step on Bashrats toes. But the integrator has allways had the ability to run Bashrats DPs_Base.exe unattendedly after integration by using the "Run File After Intergation" Advanced Option. ;)
galileo
04-02-2007, 06:26 AM
Ooops...(mea culpa)...I was using "BTs" to refer to adding further "Beta Testers"...not "BTS" driver packs :)
i.e.: ..."if you are still adding Beta Testers"...(which I would still like to do)
(interesting how we can use certain abbrevations and confuse each other)
:p

Hi
I've a litttle (big) request.
Can you make some sort of [input_Section] that give a choice to end user.
Some exemples:
1-For an add-on theme, when the theme is integrated a pop-up say
"would you want to use this theme as default?"
If user say yes correct line is added to winnt.sif
2-For creating an winnt.sif add-on this will be usefull (some checkbox and input field lets user choose options or enter personal informations.)
And for in rvmintegrator you add a checkbox (activated by default?) "don't lets interactive add-ons interact with user" for silent use of the integrator.
I think it's hard to done but this can be usefull?

Siginet,
A post from about a month ago listed beta 6. Any status on the debugging the beta version? I'm curious because I messed up my machine (services don't work right) and will be re-installing everything (I'm also testing out the office integrator 0.4) tonight. If you would like me to test 1.5 for a clean non-vm install, I'm available. If not, I'll be using 1.4.3.
Thanks

Hey Siginet,
I'm one of a few network specialist for our company. One of the things I maintain is our Remote Installation Server and Desktop/laptop imaging cd's. Currently most of this is done manually by me or another person slipstreaming custom scripts, service packs and applications to our install CD's for all of our Techs to use when imaging our systems.
I'm pretty new to your site and RVM program. i must say i'm pretty excited about using this program to see how much time and effort it saves me from manually doing many of the things needed.
Most of our systems are XP and probably will stay that way but we are starting to get Vista's Enterprise going and myself use it. So if you could use another tester in a larger enviroment i'd welcome the chance!
Keep up the great work!

Could I also be added to the beta testers forum? I used to update builds almost weekly, but haven't done one since April (mostly because I'm too lazy to boot back to XP for the builds).
I also wanted to know how you felt about suggestions for the Integrator in general. I'm certainly no programmer, but I've had a few ideas for a while now that may pique your interest. If you don't mind, then I'll start a separate topic for "Feature Requests" later. If you'd rather not be bothered just yet, then I can go pound sand.
Much appreciated.

Hi Siginet,
About new fonction for switchless installer:
Have you speaked with nuhi about the new fonction for switchless integration in svcpack. (direct integration of .exe in svcpack). Because this save a lot of time and bandwith (i provide most of my addon with the *_addon.7z and *.exe, in this way people can choose between svcpack or post install).
This new fonction is very great, and i can forgive about making addon for automatic installer if Nlite can do the same. (I don't use Nlite but some user of my french updatepack use it). If you want i can ask him in msfn forum.
And i'll give a try to beta this week-end, thanks! I'm very extited by this new version.

Maybe nuhi should then name his program nLitegrator? He seems to copy all of the features of the ryanvm Integrator doesnt he? I don't see nuhi give credit to Signet for any of the features he came up with. Nothing against nLite... but nLite used to be fore slimming things down (hince the name)... but since the integrator was made nlite has seemed to copy every feature that it does. Just about every bit of the areas of those "NLite addons" were created by siggy himself from what I have seen. Why doesnt nuhi just allow the integrator to be run as a plugin to nLite? Less work for him... and it would seem fair. I think the integrator is far superior to nlite when it comes to adding stuff to a disk.

So Hoping I can become a Beta tester to leave my critical eye (and weird test methods) so I can be happy to use this tool and so others can benifit from the projects I have planned in the comming weeks.

v1.5 has taken me longer then I ever imagined to code. It is very close to being finished and seems to be very stable but i think there are still a few additions I want to add to it. I don't want to leave the public out anymore though.
v1.5 has had to be recoded about 3 times due to major changes in the autoit development. It seems like whenever I am ready to release it another major change is in autoit.
I was about to release Beta22 of v1.5 today... but the Autoit Development team has recently put a limitation in one of the core functions I use which has made Beta22 in operable. :( I have read on the autoit boards that they will be removing the limitation in their next beta though. So I decided to postpone the realease of my Beta22 until then.
Those of you just added to my beta team... please test Beta21 and let me know if you find any new bugs.

I have given you Beta access for the future. But Beta testing of v1.5 has moved to the public forums now.
