RVM Integrator v1.5 RC1
v1.5 has been in developement for almost a year. It has been completely re-wrritten from the ground up multiple times due to major changes. It fixes the only major issue which was in v1.4.3 with Spaces and Symbols in the paths. It is also now compatable with Windows Vista. It has many new features! :D Some of my favorites are:
1. The new Driver.CAB Cacheing (Which can save about 10 minutes of your UpdatePack integration times!
2. The new Re-Compress Update/Addon Pack plugin (Which can also save tons of time from integrating UpdatePacks and AddonPacks.
3. The integrator can now directly integrate Switchless Installers that are not compressed into Addons!
And many other great additions!
The integrator is much more powerful with the addition of new Entries sections and Plugin features which will allow Addon creators to make addons that are much more sophisticated!
I hope everyone appreciates all of the work the Beta Team and I have put into this release. I personnally would like to thank all of the beta testers for their help!!!
Changes:
Addition: Added a new advanced option to cache driver.cab. This comes in handy for those of us who integrate multiple copies of our disks. It dramatically speeds up multiple integrations by about 10 minutes (Depending on your computer's speed). It detects if it is xp home, pro. 2003 and it also verifies the md5hash of each file that was added to driver.cab. If the cached files match all the above then it copies the cached driver.cab instead of recompressing driver.cab... which is the longest portion of integration. If it doesn't match all the above then it will perform a recompression of driver.cab and cache the finished files for later.
Addition: Added the ability to add switchless .exe files as addons. They are automatically added to svcpack and svcpack.inf.
Addition: Added a new plugin... "ReCompress Update/AddonPacks". This new plugin will utalize the integrator to allow a user to optimize any UpdatePacks/AddonPacks so that when used for integration they will not need to compress most files found in I386_Compress. It also will ask for a txtsetup.sif file you can specify for the integrator to parse to find files that are compressable. (Specifying a txtsetup.sif file is reccommended... but is completely optional.)
Addition: Added the option to SlipStream a ServicePack file without performing an integration.
Addition: Added a new Inputbox to the "MakeISO Tab" (This also means there is a new addition to the English_1.5.lng file as well: 1135 = Browse To the Location Which Contains the Finished I386 Directory.)
Addition: The integrator now checks the I386 Directory for existing compressed or uncompressed files which are being moved from rvmtemp\extracted. If they exist they are deleted before the transfer.
Addition: Added usable Fourth pole in ExtraFileEdits which forces the integrator to use Case Sensativity when editing files. - Requested by: enu_user.
Addition: Added code to prevent users from integrating RyanVM's 2.2x Updatepacks over 2.1.x UpdatePacks. - Requested by RyanVM for future UpdatePacks.
Addition: Added new @PLUGINS variable for use with [FileCopy], [FileMove], [DirCopy], [DirMove], [RunFile] and the new [CreateCab] and [ExpandCab] sections. This new variable will allow a UpdatePack/Addon creator to specify the RVM Integrators PLUGINS directory as a place of source/Destination of files.
Addition: You can now use parameters in the [RunFile] section.
Addition: Added 2 new Sections that can be used in any entries file for expanding and creating complete cab archives. [ExpandCab] and [CreateCab]. They were mainly created so that people can make Media Center UpdatePacks/Addons.
Addition: Added code to automatically parse txtsetup.sif to see which files can be compressed in the i386 directory. It also automatically compresses cat files too. (I386_compress is still available as well.)
Addition: Added support to automatically parse drvindex.inf to see if files need to be copied or moved to driver.cab. (drivercab_copy and drivercab_move are still available as well.)
Addition: mmsetup.cab recompression is automatically performed if msmsgs.exe is found in the updatepack or if the section mmssetupcab_move is found in entries.ini. It does not recompress mmsetup.cab if neither of those areas are found.
Addition: Completly removed modifype.exe due to Vista incompatabilities and replaced it with n7Epsilon's PEChecksum.exe. Thanks n7Epsilon! (This file is used in the patch addons to make sure the correct PEHeaders are placed in HexEdited files.)
Addition: When you click on the Config: integrator.ini located on the main gui tab it will open the ini in notepad.
Improvement: [HexEdit] sections were expanding and recompressing files for every single edit made to the file. Now it only expands the file once and then recompresses when it finishes all edits.
Improvement: [ExtraFileEdits] sections were expanding and recompressing files for every single edit made to the file. Now it only expands the file once and then recompresses when it finishes all edits.
Improvement: Changed the way the integrator detects Upgrade disks. Hopefully this will be more universal. Only tested on windows XP.
Improvement: Files are now moved instead of copied during the "Shifting Files Around" stage of integration which will drastically improve on the integration time.
Improvement: The integrator will now add a .ini to the end of any filename given in Save Settings (if .ini doesn't allready exist at the end of the name).
Improvement: Forced [EditFile] to create any directory structure and the file it is editing if it does not allready exist.
Improvement: Posted new English_1.5.lng file which contains more areas to translate. (Like the menu items at the top)
Improvement: Re-Wrote the entire Translation portion of the integrator so that it does not need to know the exact amount of lines used for translation.
Improvement: Added more advanced debugging. When you select the advanced debug features it will show a lot more paths in the log.
Improvement: The Advanced Option "Convert Unicode to ANSI" feature should be obsolete now so it has been removed.
Improvement: Made the integrator check if at least 1.5 GB of space is available to perform integration.
Improvement: Got rid of the need for xcopy.exe.
Fixed: The integrator is now fully compatable with Windows Vista x86 and x64 versions.
Fixed: Path issues with 7zdn.exe which should get rid of a lot of bugs with spaces and symbols in the paths.
Fixed: Slipstreaming during integration when selecting "<NO>" didn't always run.
Fixed: "French Windows XP retail and OEM CD are correctly recognized, but not the corporate one."
Fixed: Detection of Corporate and Upgrade disks. Please check each os you have to see if it is detected correctly. If it is not please post your Pidgen.dll file So I can figure out why.
It would be awsome if you could all check out my http://Support.SiginetSoftware.com page and join as a refferal on my http://www.yourps34free.com/index.php?ref=4517441 It is very easy. Just sign up with an email address then order 1 offer. Once your order is verified then I have you as a refferal. I have even found a YouTube video of an official NBC G4TV broadcast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFKYVE__Mug ) to make you feel more comfortable. ;)
I only need 11 more refferals to get a Playstation3. Thanks VCC for being my first refferal!!!
I am getting some people signing up... but most of them are not filling out an offer. I don't get credit unless 1 offer is complete.

Hello Siginet,
I made the italian translation of RVM Integrator. I've noticed that in Make ISO tab there are two things that cannot be translated.
If you select to use an external tool, when you press the "..." it will pop up a windows which text "select external iso tool" can't be traslated (no reference in the language file). I attach a screenshot (rvm with the italian file and this window in english). Image compressed in zip file due to attachement limit.
In make iso tab, also the "iso location and filename" will pop up a windows which text "select an image file" can't be translated.
Best regard,
mf3imp
PS: maybe, user "nonno fabio" will explain this better than me in correct english.

Thanks for your hard work Siginet.
I did just want to tell you about a problem that might be something to do with your Integrator...
I copy and pasted this from my post over at Ryans forum...
"Hi Zacam, I don't know what is causing this, but I just made a new XP build using your latest patches, that I just downloaded today, and have an error coming up during Windows Install complaining about SFC_OS.dll missing. When setup completes I get load of windows complaining about missing files, with the result of windows being un-usable.
I used the latest RC1 of the Integrator, on a clean XP disc."

I don't think it is the integrator causing your problem... since this is the first time this is being reported. That type of error is usually related to an addon. But you are welcome to post your integrator.log integrator.ini and z_datastore.ini file so that I can attempt to help you find the problem. It is very difficult to help without having something to look at. I do know that Zacam released an updated sfc_os patch, due to a typo. The error was related to patching SP3.

@Siginet
I have a question about the driver.cab I have a folder located here C:\Windows\Driver Cache\i386 and in this folder I have this file driver.cab which is 75mb is this something that the Integrator is copying over? I don't remember seeing it before this is with SP3 and a bunch of addons. I will check if SP2 is also doing this any thoughts?
Thanks,
dolivas

No that is not from the integrator. It puts the cache in .\Plugins\CACHED\proSP3
Thanks Siginet, I have attached the files for you to have a snoop at...
Hmm I don't see any flaws in the logs.
Edit:
I notice it is only reporting patching:
18:53:11 - SFC_OS.DLL 5.1.2600.2180 Patched at offset 60644.
But not the pechecksum. which is weird... because the integrator should use pechecksum.exe to patch the checksum anyways... even if zacams patchaddon does not patch it. It could be possible there is a bug here... but I can't recreate it and so far no one else has had the same issue.
Edit2:
seems like Zacams Patch does not patch the checksum. But that still doesn't explain why the integrator is not using pechecksum.exe on it. :(
Can you use the debugging feature of the integrator? Just the "Advanced Debug Mode". No need to see the windows. It should add extra code to the logs to show if it attempts to run pechecksum.exe or not.

Thanks for looking into this siginet...
I used a fresh XP SP2 CD and chose Ryans latest update pack and Zacams latest patches, nothing else, and still the same error in windows setup about sfc_os.dll
** EDIT **
I noticed during using the integrator's debug mode, that the command prompt window does not close after compressing the driver.cab file, resulting in me thinking that the process had failed, but after i closed the cmd window, the integrator started up again, and all was ok.

Hi again Siginet!
The patch you posted over at Ryan's worked a dream, so all is good.
I thought I would send you the Integrator files, so you could have a look at the successful version.
Many, many thanks for all your help, and good luck squashing the last few bugs out of your Integrator!

you are applying a sp2 update pack to a sp3 source.
also current sp3 is v3264.

Hi Guys,
I had a question. I put all my downloaded addon to separate folder. I categorized them by the addon type (Applications,Themes, fonts and etc...) so that it easier to me to choose which addon I like to intergrate in my Win XP. I'm using RyanVM Intergrator to intergrate those addon.
The problem is I need to intergrate those addon multiple times because I only can intergrate only addon in same folder. I cannot choose addon in seperate folder. How can I intergrate those addon in seperate folder (like nLite)?

Thanks Roadrunner, but this issue has been resolved. It is a bug in the Integrator, and also a bug in Zacam's patch.
Also, I stated that I am using an SP2 source here, and over at Ryans forum. (To Siginet)

Hi again Siginet, I hate to do this to you, but I'm still having the same trouble with any addons that require Hexing, I'm getting more missing file errors now that I have chosen the rest of my addons to customise my XP install.
I have looked at the logs, and it appears that the error that was causing the SFC_OS.DLL to fail, is happening to other addons that are perhaps missing similar information to Zacams patch.
Just a heads-up for you.

Then that makes me think it is not an issue with the integrator and it is an issue somewhere else. Nobody else is having this issue... and I cannot recreate the problem in anyway. :( Zacams patchaddons have the checksum in most of them. It doesn't make since that the others have the problem too. Unless a bug happens on VERY rare circumstances that I can't figure out.

I just integrated Zacam's patches in a fresh SP2 build and everything worked flawlessly. Used RVMI RC1, Ryan's beta 2.2.1b2 update pack and the 13f patch addons.

This is really strange Siginet. How does the PECHECKSUM.EXE work, ie, how can I test to see if it is running, and check any error codes PECHECKSUM.EXE might give out? I'm trying to figure out what could interfere with it, and the only thing I can think of is that I run AVG Antivirus Free Edition, but I turned it of a week ago, so its not even active, do you have any ideas as to what can prevent PECHECKSUM.EXE from doing it's thing?
If I run the file manually, this is it's output...
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

C:\Documents and Settings\Snuffle>"C:\Documents and Settings\Snuffle\Desktop\Rya

UM.EXE"
Usage: PEChecksum [-p|-c] <filePath>
-p: Shows current checksum
-c: Calculates checksum and updates file
This is the list of files that Windows setup complains about...
dmconfig.dll
dmadmin.exe
dmboot.sys

I have moved to my main computer, which is much more advanced than the one I was using before, and have found that PEChecksum.exe is working on that computer!
I have just started installing it on my virtual PC, and have gotten past the text mode setup with no missing file prompts, so all is well so far, but I will update this post when the installation has completely finnished, and I have done some checks in Windows to make sure it functions properly.
The only thing I can think of, is that maybe the RVMI or PEChecksum.exe does not like a computer which supports mixed languages, in this case English and Danish, which was how my older computer was setup.

It is worth noting that filepath has to be surrounded with quotes otherwise the path with spaces will not be found (to Siginet, I hope you made sure of that and I hope you are checking the errorlevel, 0 is success, anything else is an error).
Also pechecksum is compiled as an ANSI application and will not work with non-English pathnames if the currently set system ANSI codepage does not contain an equivalent for the unicode characters used in that specific non-english path. (The current system ANSI codepage is the one you can set from the "Advanced" tab in Regional and Language setting, the box where windows says, choose the language for "older" applications).
I am releasing a new version of this shortly that is compiled as Unicode, Siginet please include it to avoid problems with non-English paths.
@Stimpy, check my PEChecksum thread and replace the one in your plugins folder with the one I will release now and see if it fixes your problem. (in case it is not integrator problem with quotes).

Thanks for looking in to this n7Epsilon, I have the feeling that I have been dissmissed as an idiot by everybody else! lol
I will try your new updated version first thing tomorrow, in about 10 hours time. I promise to post my results here, as at least you seem interested.
Once again, thank for your help n7Epsilon.

No I do not think you are an idiot Stimpy. I am glad you are reporting a problem. That is how bugs get found and fixed. But as you saw yourself... no one else has an issue (so far) even your other computer. ;)
@N7epsilon Yes I have it enclosed in quotes. ;) All of my testing of v1.5 has been tested in paths with quotes and special characters. I don't think Stimpy's paths containded any non ANSI characters either. It is a very odd problem he is having. That is why I think it has something to do with pechecksum and an incompatability with something on his computer. Hopefully we can all figure it out. I'll be sure to add the new pechecksum to the next release. ;)

when I experienced a smilar issue, it turned out to be because the driver.cab in my cache had become corrupted, discovered by testing archive with 7zip's test archive option.
Replacing that with a non corrupt driver.cab fixed my issue, that is why I asked if there was a way to include md5 cs for driver.cab in the cache checking section. The way I was thinking was, store md5 cs in a file at creation time, each time integrator is ran, verify the driver.cab against that stored md5 and recreate if the md5 don't match.

Thats good to hear Siginet, I also hate it when you get 1 person rattling on about a problem that nobody else is having! I just wish I could figure it out myself then tell you what happened, and how to fix it! ;)
Im just going to go back on the other computer, and try replacing the PEChecksum.exe file with the new one, and see if that helps.
Wish me luck... :)

Well, it's all still going wrong. PEChecksum is still not working, after upgrading it to version 1.3. And thanks for your support ENU_user, I just wish I could figure this weird problem out...
Here are the logs from the RVMI...
Can anybody explain to me how I can manually run PEChecksum, and perform those hex edits myself, so that I can rule out the Integrator?
Also, the advanced debug does not work as described, it closes all but one window, so i am unable to see the output of pechecksum.
Stimpy

I can confirm that I can install Windows without missing file errors if I use Beta32 of the Integrator.
I only get missing file errors relating to failed hex editing with RC1.
I can reproduce the results every time. I have tried replacing PEChesum.exe with version 3 when I use the RC1 version of the Integrator, still with the same missing file errors during Windows Setup.
I use the PEChecksum.exe that comes with Beta32. So it seems that PEChecksum is working ok, and that there must be something that has changed between Beta32 and RC1 of the RVMI, that is causing this.

Yeah I noticed that the latest integrator is closing windows. So in the next release I will fix that. ;) But n7 explained the use of pechecksum in the thread at RyanVM's. That is definatly something that would be good to try. It may or may not rule out the integrator.
If you look in the debugged log you can see that pechecksum is ran. Can you pm me your messanger info. Maybe if we can meet up on messanger we can tackle this and figure it out.

Holy crap... looking in the log it looks like I may not have pechecksum in quotes like n7Epsilon had previously mentioned! So I looked into my code and I noticed I am actually using FileGetShortName on the path. Which is supposed to convert the path so that it has no spaces by using the ~ method. I notice that only the first portion is getting converted:
C:\DOCUME~1\Snuffle\Desktop\RyanVM Update Packs\Latest Official\RVM_Integrator_1.5RC1\Plugins\CHECKSUM\PE CHECKSUM.EXE
Therefore this could be the problem. Weird thing is I seriously do test with paths and spaces. But now that I look at it... my integrator is located in a path with no spaces. My Updateapcks and addons are in paths with spaces.
I'll fix this tonight and get RC2 online as soon as I can. I'm pretty positive this is the problem.
Thanks Stimpy! Looks like we caught a major issue before the final release. ;)

Thanks for looking at this in detail Sigi! I thought that I was some weirdo on a crusade of some kind! lol
I too noticed that way the directory paths were in 2 different standards, but was not clever enough to point the finger at it ;)
I can't wait until you get RC2 out the door, I'm sure you will have nailed this oddity good and proper. :)
Really nice work Siginet :)

I just want to say that, this is a great release so far. I have done some integrations, and no problems occured so far. The important thing is i'm using a folder that has special characters in it.

OK... Stimpy's issue is very odd now. I now realize why I used FileGetShortName instead of using quotes.
When I use quotes around pechecksum.exe then it does not work for some reason. The only way I can get it to work is by using FileGetShortName.
When I use fileGetShortName it does actually still work for me. Also MrNxDmX's log shows that his path also has spaces and special characters in it.
@MrNxDmX could you test the patchaddons, (without the checksums in them), using the same path you are using now?
@Stimpy I still have a feeling something is weird on your computer. It should be converting those paths to 8.3 compatable paths. :( I am gonna browse autoit forums to see if I can find out what may be causeing this. Maybe there is a bug in autoit (again). :(

Should pechecksum be listed as "PE Checksum" as well?
n7Epsilon
01-10-2008, 10:57 PM
@Siginet, the actual program you are launching is cmd.exe
So pass this as its parameter and all should be well
"PathToPeChecksum.exe" -c "PathToFile"
You will need to escape the quotes and pass this string as the parameter to cmd.exe
"\"PathToPeChecksum.exe\" -c \"PathToFile\""
this should solve all the problems, go through the code and correct things to make them like that...
Using the shortname will lead to trouble. Some people disable shortname generation on their PCs to increase windows performance, and you shouldn't rely on a Win9x era method to do things, especially that this is being phased out (perhaps Vista even has it disabled by default, I don't use it so I maybe wrong here).
2nd Please check the exit code. (cmd.exe returns a non-zero exit code when it fails to launch the passed command line !).
Write to debug output or add an assert or whatever to popup a message box when exit code is not 0, at least in the debug version of your code.
If AutoIt doesn't let you get the exit code or the process handle, then don't use its built-in functions to launch external programs, instead, define the CreateProcess API (or the ShellExecuteEx API) declaration and translate the Win32 types and use it to get a process Id, then use WaitForSingleObject to wait for it to exit and at the end use the process Id with the GetExitCodeProcess (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms683189(VS.85).aspx) function to get the exit code.
I guess you could wrap this into a function and use it for all of your process launch requirements...

OK... Stimpy's issue is very odd now. I now realize why I used FileGetShortName instead of using quotes.
Sig, MrNxDmX's will work because GetShortName would convert the path to "C:\yeni~" so the special charactors would be left off anyway. But, I suspect the charactors might work anyway.

I think that is just the site putting a space in there. In the real log there is no space there.

its rather critical to have var% locals functioning for unattended stuff ....
maybe with a dictionary for the commonly used windows vars environments used in the script can help, when looking at edits: and finding a familiar %var% its recognized as local bit and switch to use %%var%% instead so it ends up passing the true var as untouched ,or use some record and restore some kind of way ....
Siginet
01-12-2008, 10:11 AM
@ENU USER I think I should leave that to the addon creators. There are so many different ways something like that can be done ... if I go changing stuff like that it could just get more confusing. ExtraFileEdits is meant to search for the true string. It does not parse any variables.
RC2 is in production now. ;) I have fixed the PECHECKSUM path so that it uses quotes instead of FileGetShortName. Which was a lot more difficult that it sounds because there are actually many ways that this would logically work... but none of the ways I actually wanted it to work... even though logically it should have. So what I did is when pechecksum is called now it actually reads the output from it and places it in the log. So now when a file is patched it shows: "New checksum: 188642 (I386\SFC_OS.DLL)"
I also added a new thing into the integrator that has been requested many times since the first release. The integrator will do it's best job to keep original timestamps on the files now. :) I'm not completely finished adding this but it is working for the most part allready.
I also went through the code and began getting rid of any use of FileGetShort name since n7Epsilon feels it may be an issue on some users computers.
_Log History will now be saved as: YEAR-MONTH-DAY_HOUR.MIN.SEC.log (2008-01-12_10.29.54.log).
RC2 should be ready later this weekend.

i know vars are mainly used for strings ,thats why i suggested making a small dictionary for the locals so when a match is found in the edits then it can be possible to use "%%" as "%" so the true local isn't affected
a dictionary in use can be made to avoid messing up "strings" but mostly to protect the locals original string ..
btw here is one for extrafileedits ;)

OK I am confused. So are you saying that the ExtraFileEdit string you are passing does not work? Or are you asking to have ExtraFileedits parse the %USERPROFILE% variable? I'm having a little trouble understanding what you are trying to accomplish because I don't visually see a problem with the edit you are currently trying to make?
Are you wanting to basically add the current users profile to the hive file so that it allready exists if you create a user with the same account name that you are using in your current windows environment?

im asking to pars all local extensions using vars not to be interpreted by integrator, and simply leave them as they are :
in practice all i need is "%USERPROFILE%" to remain "%USERPROFILE%" when it comes to edits...

@Siginet, great job! Waiting patiently for RC2.
@ENU_user, I think I understand your meaning, add it to the 1.6 wishlist.
http://siginetsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260
Seems we're all posting on top of each other. I think he means to create a variable under %USERPROFILE% for TMP so all he needs to do is point to TMP instead of the complete path %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp

@mr_smartepants Actually he was pointing out a bug and he didn't know it. ;) ExtraFileEdits is not supposed to parse any variables... but the code looks like it was. So I have fixed that as well. ;)
I haven't gotten to test RC2 very much and I don't think I will have time to test it tommorrow either. So what I have decided to do is give it a silent release here in my reply. I am going to attach it here for people to test. Please test everything because I did change a lot of paths and added TimeStamp fixing. I am pretty confident there are no bugs... but since I don't have the time to test I hope that you all will test it for me. If I get good reports that it is working well then I will give it a proper release.
Changes in RC2:
Added: The integrator now trys to keep the original timestamps on files.
Improvement: I changed the way some paths were formatted in the code to have a better compatability with everyones computer.
Improvement: Debugging features can now be turned on/off at any time within an integration.
Fixed: Debugging option "Show External Windows" was not keeping some windows open for viewing.
Improvement: Debugging shows more info in the log file now.
Fixed: ExtraFileEdits was parsing variables when it was not supposed to.
Improvement: Changed the way _Log History files are formatted to be listed alphabetically so that it is much easier to look through them according to date/time.

Sorry I forgot to fix this before the Pre-RC2 release. I'll try to add it to the final RC2. ;)
BTW... I feel like I am missing out on your desktop pic. ;) Seems like the integrator is hiding something very special in the background. :D

BTW that wasn't a bug that was BIG FOOT
I’ve searched the entire site and can’t find anyone who has applied SP3 to Windows XP Pro. I hope this is the right place to address this topic.

I am getting the same error as roadrunner650.
I don't know if this is your problem but when I was looking at your log file I noticed this which is not right. It looks like SP2 is either already in the source or is not being slip streamed at all?

dolivas27,
Re-Ran the RC2 beta on my Dell OEM w/SP2 disc and I still get the same error.
I didn't notice before that SP2 had not been slipstreamed during my previous integration.

@pcguy and Siginet
I decided to run some test to see if I could get the error and sure enough on a clean source and just the new beta 3 update pack I get the error so it has nothing to do with any addons looks like RC2 Beta has a problem my log looks like yours and roadrunner650 I get the error a Processing [EditFile] we will have to wait for Siginet to fix it. Just so you know I tried it with and with out the Advanced Options I also tested it with a ReCabbed and normal Update Pack and they all fail.

Yes I have verified the error with PRE-RC2. It is caused by the TimeStamp fixing code I added. I have allready fixed it for the real RC2. I'm glad I released a pre-rc2 for this very reason.
The integrator will be getting a facelift and a tummy-tuck later today as well. ;) HJW has made an awesome new banner for it... and I have decided to make the integrator's window bigger. I'm gonna pretty much keep the same layout but it will look much better. :D
