View Full Version : which do you use: Ryans VM or nlite? Both? How? Why?
I successfully used nlite to slipstream my Windows XP, but I just discovered this forum and this integrator. Title says it all.
If you had to use just one tool, which would it be? Why?
If you use both together, what is your "workflow?"
Thanks

It's actually all based on user preference. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. nLite was mainly built for removing components while the RVM Integrator was built more around adding updates and third party utilities to your disks.
I am the creator of the RVM Integrator... so of course I will say I like the RVM Integrator much more. ;)
Many people will say the RVM Integrator is geared toward more advanced users and has more features for addon makers to create more advanced addons.
But it all comes down to user opinions. ;) Give it a shot and see if you like it.
Many users use both. First adding components with rvm integrator then slimming it down with nLite.

Siginet,
Thanks for this answer. I have to create a slipstreamed XP install over the weekend. Sounds like I will want to use RVM Integrator to add things like sysinternals, and maybe even some utilities.
By the way, your sig doesn't include links to some of the magazine reviews.

I've never used any third-party tool to slipstream service packs, because Microsoft already includes that ability, pre-Vista anyway.
I use only RVM Integrator to integrate other stuff. I simply don't use nLite.

I use both.
Integrator for the addons
Nlite for applying tweaks, making an fully automated setup ISO by supplying setup information, setting locale, user info, and much more...
Both are equally powerful in their own terms.
Cheers to both Siginet and Nuhi.

I myself primarily use nlite. Main reasons are for convenience of an 'all in one' solution. It adds update packs, MS hotfixes, other addons and removes some unnecessary all at the same time.
However, on occasion I have used 'the Integrator'. The main reason for that is some addons are strictly for the Integrator. However, I have been helping with the Integrator development (if only in a small way for testing), so at least for update packs I may begin to use it more.
I am still quite fond of nlite.
