[General Information]

- I would like to evolve the hotpack system to something that is more manageable, efficient, and usable. I am releasing this so that hopefully it will be transitioned to something else, however in the meantime this system is what we need to work with.

- The OI (Office Integrator) is in need of some updating, while it does work with Office 2010 there are some bugs in it that need to be fixed so that it is compatible with Office 2010. Benners the person making the OI has been very busy and so has not had the time to fix these bugs yet.

- These updates cover 'High Priority' updates in Microsoft Updates as well as 'Optional' updates that may apply for the single English release. The new 2 Hotpack format contains the 'High Priority' global updates and as an option to include the 'Optional' updates.

[Release Information]

[2011-06-18]

- I am also using a program called Ketarin to keep the updates in a database that users can download the updates themselves and only the ones that they need to download, please check that posting for more info;

Change log for this release;

- I am just including the important information in the change log

- The OI doesn't properly integrate 2 hotfixes, kb2413186, and kb2441641, because there are multiple msp files within the hotfix. To make sure your office 2010 is completely updated, extract the contents of the hotpack, and select the following msp updates;
gkpowerpoint-x-none.msp
gkword-x-none.msp
osc-x-none-en-us.msp
Copy these three updates into your office destination directory and place them into the Updates folder. When installing it should pick up all the msp's and result in no updates according to MU (microsoft updates).

I have Office 2010 Home and Student installed on XP and Win7 32/64 bit. Cannot find an \Updates folder\subfolder under \Office14. Office is up-to-date so where would this folder be located? (Yes, I've looked in all the logical places.)

Also, I have installed Office 2010 SP1 beta in all places mentioned above - could this have chnaged \updates folder somehow?

Hi Chief

The updates folder is on the source, either the DVD that you are installing from or the Destination location in the OI. The updates (in the updates folder) are only applied on installation, if office 2010 is already installed then normally updates come from MU or installing the hotfixes manually.
I would suspect if yo've installed the SP1 beta then it would cover the updates already in the pack.

TwoJ;

I checked the DVD and found an \Updates folder under both the \x86 and \x64 folders - both included the same readme.

I'm a bit confused, though, where you say ... or the Destination location in the OI.

For example; when I ran the OI for Office 2003 I created \O2K3Integrated and \O2K3IntegratedISO folders and the OI created a \Log History folder. I then would run the OI using the Office 2003 CD as the source and pointed the HotPacks to be used for integration and then pointed to each folders I created for where things should go. Worked just fine.

What is the procedure to follow for Office 2010 - it is not an option under "Select an Office setup file", what would be in "Select a Destination folder"? I assume Service Pack and Hotfix selections work as previously? What about Config 1 and 2?

If I created a Destination, say:\ O10Integrated do I also create \Updates and just copy the Hotpack to it? If that is what's done then nothing gets integrated - so whta's the point other than creating a new ISO to burn a new DVD - and how does that work since Office 2010's DVD has both x86 and x64 versions.

I hope all this is clear.

Thanks:confused:

clear as mud! - actually it probably is but i guess the caffine hasn't hit the brain cells

- I said on the dvd or the OI destination, depending on if you are burning the integrated office to a dvd or whether you save it to a local folder. On a office MS office 2010 dvd or iso image the Updates folder will just have a text file saying dump your updates here, on the integrated office from OI, whether if you output to iso, dvd, or local folder (ie the OI destination location) the updates folder should be present and have some msp files in it.

- Personally i like working from the orginal iso images, mainly because i know they are 'untouched' and its not really easily to modify them, unlike dumping the source files into a folder, then it is easy to add/modify files into the "orginal". I then use a program called PowerISO which allows you to mount an iso, ie it takes an iso image and mounts it onto the windows file system so it appears that you have your iso as a CD/DVD just as if you put the real CD/dvd into your physical CD-ROM/DVD. This i use as the source in OI.
The iso image i'm using has the x86 and x64 as subfolders, the dvd just has a setup.exe on the root of the iso/disc and then the 2 x86,x64 subfolders, within each of those subfolders in the main files for each version of office 2010. So when you are in the OI you need to select the setup.exe from the x86 or x64 subfolder and not the setup.exe at the root of the disc.

I haven't tried to make an iso, it may not be working, as i said i set the destination to a local folder, you can try something like \O2010Integrated. Config 1 - you can just load in the hotpack i created, just remember to use the right one, x86 or x64 depending on which you are trying to do. Config 2 - nothing has to be done on this one.

What you could also do is copy the contents of your orginal office into \O10Integrated, then take my hotpack and uncompress it in the 'Updates' folder, this will pretty much do the same thing as the OI.
Its true that updates since 2007 have not been 'integrated', they are hotfixes that are applied at the time of installation. I don't believe there is any known way of integrating hotfixes into 2007 or 2010, and this is why it is so quick to run the process through the OI, it is esentially copying from source to destination and then unpacking hotfixes into the 'updates' folder. The Updates folder gets copied so there should be no need to create it.

Hopefully that answers some of the questions - let me know if it makes more sense

TwoJ,

As far as I'm concerned the easier way would be to copy the DVD to a hard drive partition, uncompress the hotpack to the appropriate \updates folder and install Office 2010 direcly from the hard drive (which would be faster than from the DVD). Then, if there was a future need, I could use the program Folder2ISO.exe to turn the updated Office 2010 folder with the two x86 and x64 hotpacks into an ISO file and burn a new DVD. (Which is what I expected to be the process when I read your earleir answer.)

Hi Chief

That is certainly an option, as i posted elsewhere the 2007 & 2010 office is not a real integration, since the updates are applied after the real installation, so the OI is not doing a lot of 'integration', more just copying. I would like to get the hotpacks to a global (glb) and language specific version, so that more people can use the global updates and create the language specific ones as needed, so the OI might be easier to do the multiple hotpack updates, but the difference between doing it with OI and manually will probably be slight.
I hardly ever burn a dvd these days, if i don't install from hard drive, it usually is by usb key.
What i would like to get in place is to have an online repository of updates, see my post about the office updater, that would let the OI automatically download the recent updates. But its not high on my list so this project may take some time.
However the way you are proposing should work fine - just remember that it would be best to delete the contents of the updates folder prior to putting the contents of a new hotpack into it, to avoid old updates from causing problems.

TwoJ,

Any idea as to how things will be handled when Office 2010 SP1 goes final since the OI really does not 'integrate' updates?

@ Chief - Not at the moment, the rumors for SP1 are saying a release sometime in 2011, so i don't think its in the near future. If Office 2007 is any indication, which i think is a good assumption, SP1 will be just another update to be integrated after installation. Its unfortunate that no one has found a way to slipstream the hotfixes into office 2007 & 2010 but that's the way it is at the moment.

Did a test. Copied Office 2010 32-bit to harddrive and used as the source. Ran OI > selected Office 2007 > created folder for update, pointed to SP1 beta and then three hotfixes. OI did its thing and placed SP1 update and hotfices in \Updates.

Testing of installation will have to wait. Am checking on various Win7 sliptreaming/integrating programs. Could be a while before I have an occasion to install this 'update' to Office 2010.

Can copy log file if it is useful to anyone.

@Chief - The OI still has issues with Office 2010 so you can expect that some updates will appear after running Microsoft Update.

Info for all - Office 2010 SP1 final was released today - separate downloads for 32-bit and 64-bit - must assume it included prior updates but did not notice any listing of what was included.

Still trying to catch up with you guys :-)
I've tested SP1 x86 and the only thing that still appears as an update is the email filter update.
I'm updating the ketarin project with the updates, hopefully it should all be done this weekend

Thanks guys
