I've been waiting for this and figured I'd give it a try. Read the help file and thought I'd understood it. The Integration failed when the Hotpack was run. (HotPack was from this forum.) If I screwed up please say so as I appear to be the first reporting anything and I'll take the first hit.
I do have a question though: My Office 2003 Pro came on three CDs - how is that information made available to the Integrator (I'm guessing here that maybe that is part of the reason there was an error?) (I had copied the three CDs to a harddrive aprtition and was using that as the source.) Fire away.

After I posted the above I got to thinking about CDs two and three and figured I'd better check them out rather then looking totally lost. CD #2 has the install routines for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Update and #3 contains Service Pack #2 files - so, a bit chagrined, I would now guess that they are not an important part of the integration and that's why their selection was not a part of the Integrator's setup.

Hi Chief thanks for the feedback.
You may not be the first to have a problem just the first to report it :-)

I only have access to the 5 disc set of the Office suite which is Office\Frontpage\OneNote\Project and Visio and have been unable to find any "naughty" versions except different languages so the testing is done on the version available to us. That said the information for each disc or application is retrieved from the ini file located in the FILES\SETUP directory and from the main msi itself.

Through out the code choices are made dependent on which msi is being processed and if an option is not available then an error will probably occur. With your Office there is no support for the other 2 discs but disc one should work. Looking through your log there are a couple of things that are wrong, they are both the Integrators fault,

1. For some reason the MAINSP3.msp patch is being applied to the OWC10.msi when it should (for this Office) be the Pro11.msi and then the error should have occurred with this patch and not the Excel one. I have main a adjustments and hopefully this won't occur again.

2. The error reported between the long # lines are read from the actual log file so they are correct, but the <ERROR #1> is wrong it should say "A problem occurred integrating the patch (patch name here)" and this has been fixed.

Despite the errors the problem is still pointing to the Product Key, checks are done for length and type before integration so if this were the case an error or dialog box would have been shown. Have you since this post used the Integrator to make a successful integration or is there still a problem with the Integrater?.

Your comments say you 'fixed' the problems with the Integrator but I saw no indication a 'new' build was posted. I ran my test using build 49.

I just checked the Integrator's About and found no mention what build it is - you might want to add this information in the future so us users know which one we have.

I decided to wait for your reply to see if you had any more problems before releasing small updates. I have updated the first post with the new build. The fix wrt the Service Pack error will need testing. It will still error I expect, but it should error on the correct msi as Office Web Components don't use a serial.

I should have asked this earlier; Config 1, lower box: Options - I understand User and Company but Location left me puzzled; why does Help say this Specifies the install location. Why? Does the Integrator require something from the already installed program? Or if I use the new CD I create using the Integrator does this location become an unchangeable default location? (I hope this is a clear question.)

I was new to it too and may have not have set it up correctly but my first run through it seemed to be error free except for the 0byte ISO file. For your info I am posting the log file from running it here; maybe it did/does something different from the Integrator. One thing it required was the Office CD had to be the source; it would not use the copy I had on a drive partition.

I just ran a test with Office 2003 Standard VLK and everything seemed to go well. there was one update (KB945432) that is absent for the hotfix update from skinny but that was it.

I do have some questions though;

1) What is the Others box for in the Product Key section?

2) It seems to be necessary to enter a Product key for the DI method, is this necessary and is the key integrated into the msi like an admin install? The DI method i tried did pop up the box to enter the key during installation so i assume its not kept

3) Does the DI method work for XP & 2007 or is it just for 2003?

4) Because i use GPO for deployment, and that the only official deployment type supported is msi/mst, i'm stuck between using an exe (ie your setup.exe) and using an admin install and then modifing the registry to get MU to acknowledge the updates. So the question are;
-Is it necessary to have the setup.exe or is there anyway to run the installation from the msi?
-The transforms added in Config1, are they added to the setup.exe bootstrapper? If this is the case the only thing necessary is to run the setup.exe? If this is the case then i guess a GPO could be created using a logon script that points to that setup.exe

I think the DI would work well for cases where you are dealing with individually licensed versions of office, such as OEM, Retail, and Upgrade, in Microsoft speak - a Non-Enterprise channel version.
Then the Enterprise versions (most notably the VLK versions) one would use the admin install.

I will test this more on an OEM version and report back
