First time I've had a problem in a long time - hope it's not serious.

Tried again using individual Hotfixes - same error mesage at same place.

Tried again and bypassed update in question - same error at next hotfix.

Tried again but this time from within Win7 32-bit - same error using HotPack - did not try individual hotfixes.

Have no ideas here as to what is going on.

hmm - i'll try to do a clean test today to check it out, i guess on your side if you can check the md5 checksum of the download to make sure its not corrupted.

MD5 checksum checked and they matched.

In my message, above, I said I tried again using the individual hotfixes as opposed to the hotpack and got the same error message on the same item. Odd.

Also, I chekced the previous log file for my June success and that item by KB number integrated just fine - so something else has gone wrong. More checking required.

It appears the problem was caused by what I thought was a valid Office 2003w/SP3 CD I was using as the source.

Opted to use the original Office 2003 w/SP2 CD and Integrate SP3 plus the hotpack - went just fine.

Time to put a big note on the case - use the original only!!!

Interesting - i always use the orginal iso release and integrate the latest sp with the hotfixes so as to be sure that it works the way it should.

The SP2 integrated office cd - is that an official release from MS? i haven't seen any official releases of office that have the SP integrated unlike their windows versions.

so, after reading this information I labelled the box "CD has SP2" for any future reference - knowing I'd forget after a couple of months of not worrying about Office 2003 and/or preforming a new integration.

As I said earlier, I though I had made a 'good' Office 2003 w/SP3 CD but that appears to have been wrong and a return to the original CD 'solved' the problems I described.

I now have Office Home and Student 2010 Military Appreciation version so use of Office 2003 will be reduced to when I need it on XP Pro x64 w/SP2 which is not compatible with the Home and Student version of Office 2010. (It is compatible with XP Pro and Win7 32- and 64-bit but not XP Pro 64-bit - go figure.)
